Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot was 17 December 2018 sworn in as the chief minister of Rajasthan, while Sachin Pilot took oath as a cabinet minister. Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh administered the oath of office to Gehlot and Pilot in Albert Hall.



The Congress party announced that Pilot will be the state's deputy chief minister.

CHIEF MINISTER: As per the constitution of India, the governor is a state's de jure head, but de facto executive authority rests with the chief minister. Following elections to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, the state's governor usually invites the party with a majority of the seat to form the government.

The governor appoints the Chief Minister, whose council of ministers are collectively responsible to the assembly.

Since 1949, Thirteen people have served as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
The first Chief Minister of Rajasthan was Heera Lal Shastri.
The incumbent Chief Minister is Ashok Gehlot, who was sworn in on 17 December 2018.
