Congress leader Kamal Nath sworn in as the 18th Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh in Bhopal on 17 December 2018. Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath of office to him.



Now tell you that Kamal Nath, who has held several portfolios in the Union Cabinet, was appointed the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president on 26 April 2018 and was at the forefront in steering the party to a win in the November 28 Assembly polls. The results were declared on 11 December 2018.

The Congress, which won 114 seats, has the support of one Samajwadi Party legislator, two Bahujan Samaj Party MLAs and four independents, to cross the majority mark of 116 seats in the 230-member Assembly.

CHIEF MINISTER:
As per the constitution of India, the governor is a state's de jure head, but de facto executive authority rests with the chief minister. Following elections to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the state's governor usually invites the party with a majority of the seat to form the government.

The governor appoints the Chief Minister, whose council of ministers are collectively responsible to the assembly.

Since 1956, Eighteen people have served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
The first Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh was Ravishankar Shukla.
The incumbent Chief Minister is Kamal Nath, who was sworn in on 17 December 2018.
