Who wrote Vikramacharita?

Bilhana was a luminary literary figure of 11th century India. He graced the royal court of King Vikramaditya, fourth of the Western Chalukya kingdom of Kalyani. King Vikramaditya accorded him the title of ‘Vidyapathi’ (Master of Knowledge) as the King was immensely impressed with the profound knowledge of Bilhana. ‘Vikramankadevacharita’ was the literary masterpiece by Bilhana who wrote it in honour of his patron King Vikramaditya. He employed the epic form to describe the life history of the king. This literary masterpiece is also a rich source of the account of culture, society and history of that time Western Chalukya kingdom of Kalyani. The book was written in Sanskrit. It is believed Bilhana came from Kashmir to South India in quest of fame and honour and he largely succeeded in his search in the court of King Vikramaditya fourth.
