Mahatma Gandhi Short Essay in English in 300 Words

The full name Mahatma Gandhi was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born on 2 October 1869 at Porbandar in Gujarat. People lovingly called ‘Bapu’ is popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi. He received his initial education at home and was profoundly affected by his parents.

Mahatma Gandhi was a shy, quiet boy in his childhood. He was considered an average student. He did not have any exceptional qualities. Like the rest of us, Gandhi wasn’t right. He experienced almost all bad habits such as smoking, stealing and eating meat. He got married to Kasturba and later on had four children.
Gandhi was sent to England for higher studies. He studied law and in 1891 was called to the Bar. He came back to India and started his legal practice but could not succeed as a lawyer. After two years of his practice, he went to South Africa for a legal case. He led the Indians there to struggle against injustice and tyranny which they were facing harsh laws.



After 21 years he came back to India and united the struggle for India’s freedom. Because of these agitations, he was imprisoned many times. Gandhi genuinely believed in Satyagraha which is a battle based on truth against injustice, cruelty and untruth of British rule. He got success in leading the countrymen to their freedom in August 1947.

Mahatma Gandhi was a great humanitarian as well as God-fearing and spiritual-minded man. He not only served the country but worked throughout his life for the improvement of the weaker people of the society and the removal of many social and the moral evils. Gandhi showed to the world the right way of peace. He wished to see India happy but he became a martyr soon. Nathuram Godse shot him dead on January 30, 1948. His last words were ‘Hey Ram.’

Gandhi genuinely believed in Satyagraha which is a battle based on truth against injustice, cruelty and untruth of British rule. During fighting with Britishers, he took help of his great weapons like non-violence and Satyagraha movements to get independence. He is the father of India. He used him all power to make India free from the clunch of Britishers. He truly understood the strength of unity in people. So he united all the people from different castes, religions, community, race, age or gender and used all through his independence movement. Ultimately, he pressurized Britishers to quit India forever through his agitations and they left India on 15th of August in 1947. Misfortunately he could not live more after the independence of India in 1947.  Nathuram Godse shot him dead on January 30, 1948. His last words were ‘Hey Ram.’ 

Mahatma Gandhi was a great humanitarian as well as God-fearing and spiritual-minded man.
