Tiger is a national animal of India. It belongs to the cat family. Tiger is a wild animal. Scientific name of tiger is Panthera tigris. It is found in different colors like orange, white and blue having black stripes. They are largely found in Asia. They have a strong and powerful body. Each and every tiger has different black stripes on their bodies. Bengal Tigers came from Siberia later they migrated to the south because of the colder climate. Now, India is a natural heritage of the Royal Bengal Tiger. Bengal Tigers are 7 to 10 feet long and 350 to 550 lbs weight. Their forelimbs are very strong. Their forelimbs help them to jump forwards and run fast.




Tigers have eyes similar to a cat’s eye. But the white tigers have blue eyes. Its eyes look like a burning lamp in the dark night. The tiger requires only three basic things, large prey, water and a den in a dense forest far away from the residential areas. At one time, an adult tiger requires around 12 pounds of flesh to eat. It lives alone and hunts a lonely place in the dense forest. Generally tiger hunts for animals such as deer, buffaloes, crocodiles, leopards, pythons, etc. Tiger does not chase its hunt for a long distance, they creep slowly-slowly behind prey and attack suddenly on it. They can jump as far as 10 meters.



Siberian tigers are known as the largest tigers. Females are known to be a little smaller than males. A few decades ago, tigers were endangering continuously. They were hunted very heavily by the man for purposes like sports, traditional medical products, etc. Then India started the campaign “Project Tiger”. The campaign controlled endangering tigers in India. ‘Project Tiger’ was started by the government of India in April 1973. The main threats to the tiger’s life are deforestation means habitat loss and population fragmentation.
