Corruption is occupied like a disease in India. It has been famous in society since ancient times. It is one of the biggest global issues, ahead of extreme poverty, unemployment, the rising cost of food and energy, climate change, and terrorism. It is said that corruption is as old as humanity itself, and then considers why the international community has only highlighted it as a problem in the past two decades. We know in history that it prevailed even in the Mauryan period. It was practiced even in the Mughal and Sultanate period. When the East India Company came to India, corruption reached a new height. Corruption in India has become so common that people now are contrary to thinking of public life with it. It is thought to be one of the biggest causes of poverty around the globe.



The meaning of corruption is that it indicates perversion of morality, integrity, character or duty out of mercenary motives, i.e. bribery, without any regard to honour, right and justice. We can say, wrong side for anyone for some monetary gains is corruption. Besides it, depriving the genuinely deserving of their right or privilege is also a corrupt practice. Malpractices, dishonesty, exploitation, scams and scandals are various manifestations of corruption. Thefts, wastage of public property make varieties of corruption.

Corruption is not found only in India but also all over the world in developing as well as developed countries. It has expended its net in every sphere of life, like politics, business administration, officialdom and services. It is true that there is hardly any sector that has not been affected by the corruption. Corruption is uncontrolled in every part and every section of society, barring the social status attached to it. Nobody is free from corruption from a high ranking officer.



In order to eradicate corruption from the society, we need to take strong steps. We need to make a comprehensive code of conduct for bureaucrats, politicians, legislatures and such code should be strictly applied. Law should be allowed to work without political interference. The government should give full powers to the judiciary in eradicating corruption. Media should come forward to create awareness against corruption in society. Special courts should be established to take up such issues and speedy trial is to be promoted. Like this, we can eradicate the corruption from the root.
