How to use verb to be in English
Incorrect :
I did not answer to him. Correct :
They attacked on the house. Correct :

Note : Answer, attack, discuss, marry, pass, accept तथा approach transitive verbs हैं, इनके बाद कोई object (noun/pronoun) आता है, preposition नहीं। किन्तु marry के बाद passive voice में to लगता है–
Ram was married to Sita. (Passive)
Ram married Sita. (Active)

Incorrect :
I visited to my friend. Correct :
She reached to my house. Correct :
They climbed in the tree. Correct : or Correct :
They confuse between the noun and verb forms. Correct :
He described about what he had seen. Correct :
Note : Visit, reach, climb, confuse तथा describe transitive verbs हैं, इनके बाद कोई object आता है, preposition नहीं। किन्तु climb a tree तथा climb up a tree दोनों शुद्ध हैं।

Incorrect :
I disbelieve in it at all. Correct :
I enjoy in doing it. Correct :
I enjoyed from my freedom. Correct :
I entered in the house. Correct :
He greeted to me. Correct :
Note : Disbelieve, enjoy, enter तथा greet transitive verbs हैं, इनके बाद कोई object आता है, preposition नहीं। किन्तु believe transitive verb के रूप में प्रयुक्त हो सकता है या in के साथ। Believe in का अर्थ होता है– have faith in.

Incorrect :
He gave to me a pen. Correct :

Note : Give, take, help, join तथा like, transitive verbs हैं, इनके बाद object आता है, preposition नहीं।

You should serve to your country. Correct :
Note : Need, obey, oppose, pass तथा serve transitive verbs हैं, इनके बाद कोई object (noun/pronoun) आता है, preposition नहीं। Pass का अर्थ 'के पास से गुजरना' होगा तो pass या pass by कहते हैं, अगर 'के बीच होकर गुजरना' होगा तो pass through कहते हैं। जैसे–
He passed through the park.

He wants to stress on some grammatical rule. Correct :

Note : Stop, stress, teach, treat तथा turn transitive verbs हैं, इनके साथ object लगता है, preposition नहीं।

Incorrect :
I do not trust to him. Correct :
I can do it without using of a knife. Correct :
Note : Trust तथा use भी transitive verbs हैं, इनके बाद कोई object (noun/pronoun) का प्रयोग किया जाता है, preposition का नहीं।

Incorrect :
He behaved her badly. Correct :

Don’t interfere their quarrel. Correct :
Listen me now. Correct :
Note : Behave, comment, gone, interfere तथा listen intransitive verbs हैं, इनके बाद कोई preposition आता है, noun/pronoun नहीं।

Incorrect :
He was looking me. Correct :
A teacher profits long holiday. Correct :
He didn’t reply me. Correct :
It may result trouble. Correct :
She succeeded her examination. Correct :
I am waiting you. Correct :
Note : Look, profit, reply, result, succeed तथा wait intransitive verbs हैं, इनके बाद कोई noun/pronoun नहीं, वरन् कोई preposition आता है।

Incorrect :
I will ask it to him. Correct :
He will ask from me a question. Correct :
I asked you that (you) tell him your story. Correct :
I will ask to him some money. Correct :
Note : यदि हम किसी व्यक्ति से कुछ कहते हैं तो ask him/her/them इत्यादि कहते हैं; जब हम किसी से कुछ पूछते हैं तब ask him/her something (= ask him a question) कहते हैं; जब हम किसी से कुछ करने को कहते हैं तब– ask him/her to do something (= he asked me to go) कहते हैं; जब हम किसी व्यक्ति से कुछ माँगते हैं तब– ask him/her for something (= he asked me for money) कहते हैं।

Incorrect :
Did you avail the opportunity ? Correct :
I enjoyed at the party. Correct :
I enjoyed myself the fresh air. Correct :
I enjoyed during the holidays. Correct :
Note : Avail के साथ myself, yourself, ourselves, themselves….+ of का प्रयोग किसा जाता है; किन्तु enjoy something, enjoy doing something या enjoy oneself doing something कहते हैं। जैसे–
I enjoyed the party.
I enjoyed dancing with you.
I enjoyed myself at the party.

Incorrect :
I informed that I had arrived. Correct :
He ordered to follow him. Correct :
Note : Inform तथा order के बाद काई noun/pronoun का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

Incorrect :
I said him goodbye. Correct :
He said me to come in. Correct :
She said me, ‘No’. Correct :
Note : You can say something (= He says goodbye); or say something to someone (= He said a few words to us); say के बाद to लगता है फिर उसके बाद कोई noun/pronoun आ सकता है।

Incorrect :
He told to me, ‘Yes’. Correct :
He told to open the door. Correct :
He told that he was coming. Correct :
Note : Tell के बाद कोई noun/pronoun (= He tells me/you/Hari/Sita) कहते हैं, tell to, tell that अशुद्ध माना जाता है।
‘Tell cannot be followed by a clause or an infinitive unless an object of person comes between them.’

Incorrect :
The murderer was caught and hung. Correct :
He hanged the picture. Correct :
Note : Hang (फाँसी देना) का past tense hanged तथा past participle hanged होता है। Hang (लटकाना) का past tense रूप hung तथा past participle रूप भी hung ही होता है।

Incorrect :
America was invented by Columbus. Correct :
Edison discovered the gramophone. Correct :
He gave the examination. Correct :
The man gave a speech. Correct :
He made a lecture. Correct :
Note : Invent का अर्थ होता है– 'आविष्कार करना'; discover का अर्थ होता है– 'खोज करना' अर्थात जो पहले से है ही किन्तु मालूम नहीं उसे खोजा जाता है; जो चीज पहले से नहीं है, उसे अविष्कार किया जा सकता है; 'परीक्षा देने' के लिए– appear at the exam. या sit for the exam. क्हते हैं; make a speech तथा deliver या give a lecture set expressions है।

Incorrect :
I make my homework. Correct :
The boy denied to take the money. Correct :
He refused that he was a thief. Correct :
Note : Do homework कहा जाता है; deny का अर्थ होता है– ‘to say that something is false’; किन्तु refuse का अर्थ होता है– ‘not to accept or do or give.’ जैसे–
She refused his offer.
She refused him even a kiss.
Can you deny the truth of his statement ?
He denied it to be the case.

Incorrect :
He tried to found his last book. Correct :
He said me a thief. Correct :
He admitted Sonu into a school. Correct :
The river has flown over its banks. Correct :
Note : To के बाद Verb का simple रूप लगता है (= to go, to play, to find etc); say का का अर्थ होता है 'कहना' किन्तु जब हम किसी को कुछ कहकर/नाम देकर पुकारते हैं तब call कहा जाता है (= call him an idiot); नाम लिखवाना के लिए get someone admitted to या into कहा जाता है; flow (बहना) का past participle रूप flowed होता है।
