The administration of Sainik schools is carried out by Sainik school society; Defence Minister of India is the chairman of this board. The Chief Minister and Education Minister of all states are its members. Colenel of Armed Force, captain of Navy and Group Captain of Air force are eligible to become Principal of Sainik School. The education at Sainik School is given by well qualified teachers. Nowadays around 40 to 60% of students of National Defence Academy are the alumini of Sainik Schools located at different corners of India. Apart from the National Defence Academy Students of Sainik Schools also get Prestigious posts in administration, Police officers Engineers and Doctors.
Eligibility Criteria
Sainik Schools of different states after admission to students in classes 6 and 9.
At the time of admission in class 6, a student should have passed class 5 and he should be 10-11 years old on Ist July of the concerned year.
Reservation—There are 25 Sainik Schools in different states of India. Around 67% of seats are reserved for the citizens of the same state in which concerned Sainik school is located. Rest 33% seats are reserved for citizens of other states. Available seats are as under—
(A) For ex-Army – 25%
(B) Scheduled Castes — 15%
(C) Scheduled Tribes — 7.5%
Entrance Examinations
Entrance examinations are held almost on the first study of January every year. The scheduled date of the examination is published in leading newspapers. Students are also informed by letters issued by the schools.
There are two examination papers for admission in class 6.
First examination paper
(A) Mathematics — Maximum Marks 100
(B) Language test — Maximum Marks 100
Second examination paper
Intelligence test—Maximum Marks 100
The first examination paper will be of two hours and the second examination paper will be of 40 minutes. Both examination papers will take place on the same day.
Students can choose any medium of language for the entrance examination in class 6, however knowledge of English is a must because medium of education in all Sainik schools is English.
Note–
1. Application form can be obtained along with prospectus by sending demand draft of ` 600 in favour of the Principal of Sainik School of concerned state in which students wants to take his admission.
2. Once a student has appeared in the entrance examination of Sainik Schools will not be allowed to appear at the next time.
3. Students will be called for an interview and medical test after the declaration of result of written examination. Students who have scored very high marks in written examinations are called for interview cum medical test.
Important tips for students
In the examination paper of Intelligence test, students are asked to solve questions based on English language. Students of Hindi medium have not enough knowledge of English, which is why it is mandatory for students to have knowledge of the English language.
