Incorrect :
I like this three kind of sports. Correct : or Correct :
They gave us three kind of food. Correct :
Note :
This तथा kind singular हैं, three तथा kinds plural हैं। अत:, this का प्रयोग three तथा kinds के पहले नहीं हो सकता और न three का प्रयोग kind के पहले हो सकता है।

Incorrect :
Citizens have all sorts of right. Correct :
Note :
All sorts/kinds/types + of के बाद plural countable noun का प्रयोग किया जाता है या uncountable noun का। जैसे– All sorts of bread, all kinds of milk, all types of food, all types of books आदि।

Incorrect :
He lived in several part of the country. Correct :
All these sport are amusing. Correct :
Note :
Several plural है, उसके साथ plural noun parts का प्रयोग होना चाहिए, part का नहीं। उसी तरह these plural है, उसके साथ plural noun sports का प्रयोग सही होगा, sport का नहीं।

Incorrect :
I have seen her lots of time. Correct :
We have met him lots of time. Correct :

जब time का अर्थ occasion होता है तब इसे countable noun माना जाता है, किन्तु time से जब 'समय' का बोध होता है तब इसे uncountable माना जाता है। Lots of के बाद plural countable noun आ सकता है या singular uncountable.

There is a lot of people here. Correct :
A lot of books in on the table. Correct :

One of के बाद plural noun किन्तु singular verb का प्रयोग किया जाता है, क्योंकि वाक्य का subject one है जो singular है।

Incorrect :
I like apple more than orange. Correct :
Ripe mango is sweeter than ripe guava. Correct :

फल का नाम countable noun होता है, उनके पहले a/an लगेगा अथवा उनका प्रयोग plural रूप में करना होगा। जैसे– I like apples more than oranges.

Incorrect :

Teacher परीक्षा में marks (plural) देते हैं, तथा full marks सही होता है, full mark नहीं।

They are, We are के बाद आने वाला noun complement सदा plural होता है। कुछ और उदाहरण देखें–

They, we तथा children plural हैं, किन्तु a lawyer, a schoolboy तथा an honest man singular हैं। अत: अधिक व्यक्तियों का मिलकर एक व्यक्ति बन जाना असंभव है।

Incorrect :
The rich is happier than the poor. Correct :
It is kind to give something to a poor. Correct :
The sick lives an unhappy life. Correct :

Adjectives (जैसे–the rich, the poor, the sick, the young, the strong) का प्रयोग जब noun की तरह हो तब वे सदा plural होते हैं।

Incorrect :
They don’t give much benefits. Correct :
He has much children. Correct :
Note :
Much का प्रयोग uncountables (जैसे– not much water), तथा many का प्रयोग plural countables (जैसे– many boys) के साथ होता है।

Incorrect :
He went to the picture to see ‘Gandhi’. Correct :
Our surrounding was pleasant. Correct :
We were in high spirit. Correct :

Pictures का अर्थ जब cinema होता है तब वह हमेशा plural रहता है; surroundings भी सदा plural रहता है; high/low/good spirits हमेशा plural रूप में रहता है, यहाँ spirits का अर्थ ‘mood’ होता है।

यहाँ some plural है, तथा who ‘some’ को refer करता है जो call का subject है, अत: call को भी plural बनाना होगा।

Nowaday के साथ हमेशा –s लगा रहता है, अर्थात nowadays (आजकल) होता है; sometimes = कभी-कभी; some time= किसी समय (जैसे– see me some time tomorrow); ( whereabout के साथ हमेशा –s लगा रहता है, अत: शब्द whereabout (पता-ठिकाना) होता है तथा इसके साथ आप is या are का प्रयोग कर सकते हैं।

Incorrect :
Two-third of the work is done. Correct :

He placed the necessary order. Correct :

Two-thirds होता है, तथा thank (धन्यवाद के अर्थ में) सदा plural Thanks are due to him. होता है। जैसे– order का अर्थ जब ‘command given with authority’ होता है, तब उसका plural रूप orders का प्रयोग किया जाता है, जैसे– Soldiers must obey orders. He gave orders for the work to be started soon.

Note : Alms (भीख), glasses (चश्मा), assets (संपत्ति), scales (तराजू), vegetables (साग-पात), measles (चेचक), eatables (खाने की चीजें), bowels (आँत), credentials (परिचय पत्र), pants, pyjamas, shorts. fetters (हथकड़ी), moveables , ashes (from the fire, but cigarette ash) सदा plural होते हैं। उनका ‘s’ या ‘es’ हटाकर singular में प्रयोग उसी अर्थ में नहीं करना चाहिए। जैसे– asset का अर्थ जब गुण होता है तब इसका singular में भी प्रयोग होता है– Good health is a great asset. Beauty is her only asset.
